Financial Aid / Bursaries

Student Diversity Fund (Dr. David Gass Memorial Fund)

Churchill Academy lost a great friend, grandparent, and dedicated board member when David Gass (1945 -2021), MD, CCFP, FCFP, passed away following a tragic pedestrian–vehicle collision in Halifax on March 19, 202l.  Well-known at Dalhousie Medical School and far beyond as a compassionate and beloved family physician, he was also a past grandparent and loyal supporter of Churchill Academy and its mission.

Attending Churchill Academy can present issues of affordability for prospective families and existing families. Many of our students are eligible for grant support from the Nova Scotia Tuition Support Program, provided that they apply and meet the established eligibility criteria.  For the vast majority of families, that provincial financial support is sufficient, but for others, particularly in times of financial stress, additional assistance may be required, from time to time, given the specific circumstances.

We are also committed to inclusion in providing support for deserving students from diverse communities in the Greater Halifax region.  Former Churchill Academy Board member, Dr, Gass, showed us the way by living example and establishing a bursary to broaden our reach in his name seemed to be a fitting tribute. That is why we have established the Dr. David Gass Memorial Bursary at Churchill Academy.

The Dr. David Gass Student Bursary is a monetary award applied to a student’s tuition fee at Churchill Academy. This bursary will be awarded to students from families from diverse communities who demonstrate genuine financial need. All families seeking financial support from the Bursary Fund shall apply for aid through the Head of School in the Main Office and complete the required written application.
